Bias VS Radial For Small Trailer Tires for Hybrid Travel
Question:
I have a aluminum golf cart trailer with 5.70 X 8 type D range bias tires on it. Iam pulling the trailer to Flordia behind my motor coach which is 1000 mile one way trip with a 960 lb golf cart on it. My question is should I by radial tires or another set of bias tires. I have been using the bias tires ever since I bought the trailer new with no problems and was going to buy 2 new tires and wheels for the trip. I also have been replacing the bias tires every 5 years. I only have 2inch between the top of the tire and the trailer deck when the golf cart is loaded so I really dont have have much wiggle room if the radial isnt close to the same size of the bias tire. If you suggest a radial I would need a size from you. Thank you

For a trailer tires I prefer bias ply over radials for typical use. If you were full time travelers I would go for the added expense of radials with longer tread life and cooler running temperatures. For more typical users who can expect the tires to run out of time before tread, I would use the less expensive bias ply tires. However you present what appears to be hybrid use; Some long trips then long idle times.
If you have had good experience with bias ply tires, I would not change, and load range D is perfect for your use. If you have a 4 ON 4” bolt pattern you can use the Kenda # AM30153 tires or if you have the 5 On 4-1/2” bolt patter use the Kenda # AM30155 tires.
Finally, nothing is harder on your tires than the wrong tire pressure. If you don't already have one I suggest you add a TireMinder # TMG-Sport digital tire pressure gauge.
