Recommended Placement Of Demco SBS Controller Box On 2020 Jeep Wrangle Sahara JLU

Question:

I am considering installation on a Jeep JLU Sahara with a plastic skid plate. Q1. Is it typically recommended to attach the controller to the cross bar on the base plate? Q2. Is the red control box supposed to be mounted in a manner that minimally exposes it to the elements? Q3. If a metal skid plate with more holes is purchased to replace the plastic one, are there additional concerns about exposure to water? Q4. Can the break away cable be mounted to only a base plate with a cross bar, or can it be mounted to a Roadmaster 521453-5 that does not have a cross bar?

I would be happy to answer your questions about installing the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 on your 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JLU.

1) The Controller does not have to be mounted to the crossbar of the base plate, the important part is finding a secure mounting surface that is out of the way to mount it. In our experience easiest place is usually on the crossbar which you can see in the video of the Demco SBS # SM99251 being installed on a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that I included.

2) I'm not quite sure what you are referring to when you say red control box, but the main control box should be mounted in a way to avoid elements as much as possible which is usually underneath the vehicle with a skid plate to help prevent water splashing on it or inside of the engine bay if you have enough room.

3) I wouldn't worry about additional holes of the aftermarket skid plate exposing the controller to water, but if you are concerned about its placement you can always mount the controller up higher in the engine bay as long as it is out of the way.

4) You do not have to mount the Breakaway cable directly to the baseplate, you can install it to one of the existing bolts next to where the 6-way connector will install as seen in the video of the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521453-5 being installed on 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that I included.
