What Options for Side Steps for 2005 Chevy Avalanche

Question:

What is clad molding? I am looking for side steps so I can stand on them when putting things on and taking things off the roof rack. I had a factor pair like this on my 2004 GMC Sonoma that looked like these and worked great. All mounting hardware included? Recommend a different one?

Clad moldings are the curved decorative plastic panels that are fitted to various parts of the Avalanche. These cosmetic panels are usually held in place by an adhesive or double-sided tape and they cover painted parts of the chassis. They are typically grey or black on the Avalanche. You will find them along the roof line, on the cargo bed and also between the doors and the wheel wells.

As you consider which tube steps would best suit you, you will want to determine whether or not you have the clad molding on your vehicle and whether it is the 1500 series or the 2500 series as these factors will determine compatibility with the many tube step options available.

I have included a link to our page for tube steps for the 2005 Avalanche; at the top there is a drop-down menu (Select Vehicle Style) where you can select the 1500 or 2500 series and whether or not you have the clad moldings. This will allow you to refine the search for options suited to your Avalanche. At the left side of this page are product filters, which you can select if you have a specific characteristic in mind, such as black finish or aluminum construction, for example. You are fortunate that there are many options from which to choose. I am glad to make some recommendations for you in the meantime.

For example, the Westin Tube Steps - Running Boards for the 2005 Avalanche, part # 27-6130-1645, offer a 6-inch wide step and a weight for the pair of 40 pounds. These steps fit the 1500 series with clad molding.

Another option for the 1500 with molding that offers a different look is the Westin Tube Steps - Running Boards, part # 27-0010-1645, which also offers the reduced weight of extruded aluminum construction along with a black molded finish and durable UV-resistant step pad.

There is an option that will fit all versions of the Avalanche, both 1500 and 2500 and both with and without clad moldings, Westin Tube Steps part # 22-5045-1535. These black powder-coat mild steel steps feature 4-1/4 inch width and a generous 91-inch length, making them among the largest available. These steps also are no-drill bolt-on products that include the required mounting kit.

Care instructions will be included with the manufacturer installation directions for whichever product you do ultimately choose; following these will ensure the longest lifespan and best appearance for your tube steps. I urge you to note and follow these maintenance tips to keep your tube steps looking their best.
