Wireless Brake Controller And 7-Way For 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE
Question:
We are leasing, so i want to do as little alteration as possible. looking to get a 3000lb travel trailer with an electric brake, but need to install the hitch and a 7pin connector. I have heard of bluetooth brake controllers, but how do i wire up the 7pin and use a bluetooth brake controller. i know how to do the 4 pin with the wiring under the jack tools. what is the correct way to do this without causing issues to the vehicles electrical system and still be functional with the brake?

Great question! Your Highlander comes with a four pin connector, so to use the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 you'll also need to use 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 12 Gauge Wires # ETBC7L
With this setup, the only additional connection you'll be making is running a hot lead wire and attaching it to the battery of your Highlander. There is no need to tap into the vehicle's electrical system.
I've attached a link to a helpful install video which shows how this is done as easily as possible on a 2019 Toyota Highlander, which is very similar to your vehicle. This video will show you how to accomplish exactly what you are trying to do using both of these parts together.
