Can Brake Controller Power Be Routed Through a Battery Isolation Solenoid

Question:

The directions show that it is directly Hooked up through the battery, Can it be powered through the solenoid which is only on when the vehicle is on. Or does it need 12 volt power all the time?

As a safety feature, brake controllers should be powered by a constant 12-volt supply via a direct connection to the vehicle's battery. This is purposely done so there's no chance of the user forgetting to turn on the controller before towing. Theoretically, you could install a solenoid as you mentioned, but I wouldn't recommend doing so as it would add an additional failure point that is honestly not necessary. Brake controllers will go into a 'sleep mode' after 10-20 minutes of inactivity. During the sleep mode, the controller draws a miniscule amount of power that couldn't discharge the battery unless the vehicle is left parked for months on end.

If you do need to park the vehicle for an extended period of time, the wiring harness joining the controller to the vehicle may be unplugged, just be sure to plug it back in before towing.

I've linked to an installation video showing the Redarc # RED44FR Tow Pro Elite being installed on a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK.
