What is the Purpose of the Number Display on the Draw-Tite Activator IV Brake Controller # 5504

just got activator 4 part 5504 and tow ready part 22280 both plug in play to factory harness the red dot comes on went brakes on but numbers come on

The number that shows up on the display of the Activator II when you are braking is the power output that your brake controller is sending back to your trailer brakes. The output level can be adjusted using the output control wheel next to the output display.
During initial set up, it is recommended to set the power level to 2 and adjust the power up or down until firm braking is reached with the trailer. You do not want the trailer brakes to lock up completely, but to brake with the same intensity as your truck.
