Do you Recommend a Timbren Suspension for Overland Trailer Using 34" Jeep Tires?
Question:
I’m looking to build an overland trailer. Several recommend the timbren. What would I need to run 34” tires 5x5 keep wheels? Do you recommend something other than timbren?

A Timbren axle-less suspension system is a great option if you are going to be overlanding. The lack of an axle means there is more clearance beneath your trailer when going off-road over difficult terrain. Additionally, installation of this type of suspension is a lot easier compared to a traditional straight-axle configuration. However, I advise against using Jeep tires on your trailer. Passenger car tires have a sidewall that is a little more flexible and cannot perform as well as trailer tires on a trailer.
If you go with a Timbren axle-less setup, you want to pick one that is rated for your trailer weight. For example, if your trailer comes in at 3,500 lbs or lower, I recommend something like the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # A35RS545. This comes with idler hubs with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. For wheels, I recommend something like the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tires # AM32161. These are a 14" wheel with Load Range D tires.
If you want to go with the Jeep wheels and tires, you can get a Timbren suspension with just the spindles like # ASR3500S06 and an idler hub like # 84550BX. These will work for wheels with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern, but you will have to check your wheel size as these hubs only work with 13" - 15" wheels.
If you also need your trailer to have brakes, let me know, and I can make some recommendations for drum brake hubs for the Timbren suspensions along with a brake controller and any necessary wiring to use the brake controller with your vehicle.
