Is Additional Circuit Breaker Needed to Install Brake Controller on 2015 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
Ill be installing a trailer brake controller on a 2015 Tacoma with the factory towing package. Looking at the Redarc Tow-pro Liberty, Tow-pro Elite, or Curt Spectrum. The wiring diagram for all of these specify an in-line circuit breaker, but I notice in many other customer questions about what they need to install a brake controller in their Tacoma that only the vehicle specific wiring adapter is ever mentioned. Is it necessary to purchase the appropriately rated circuit breaker specified in the controller manual, or is this integrated with the vehicle towing package and/or vehicle specific wiring adapter? Thanks!

All electric trailer brake controller require a circuit breaker or fuse be installed between the battery and the brake controller. Since your Tacoma is outfitted with a factory towing package, this breaker or fuse will already be installed inline with the power wire ran to brake controller plug located under your dash.
You will not need to purchase or install any additional breakers or fuses since your truck has the factory tow package.
Of the options you mentioned, I really like the Tow Pro Elite #RED44FR for it's minimalist design without missing any of the features of a traditional proportional brake controller. The custom wiring adapter to install the controller on your Tacoma is parts # 3040-P and # 331-TPH-017.
