Solor Equipment Recommendations for Jayco X23B With

Question:

I have a 2019 Jayco X23B camper that has been prewired for solar, by Go Power. Attached are photos. Can your systems utilize these connections and wiring? I would like a system with panels I can mount on the roof and portable panel that I can plug into jack in the tongue. Does the prewire include wiring for an inverter, as I would like one. I have an extra lead acid deep cycle battery. Maybe later get lipo batteries. I have two portable generators that I can run in parallel. What do you have?

For solar panels I would start with the Go Power # 34272628 2-pack of 110 watt panels. (Total of 220 watts) In the future (or today) based on the available space on your roof you can easily daisy-chain one, two, or four more panels. I like the flexible panels as they will conform to the bowed top of your roof, and are more easily installed compared to rigid framed panels. For additional panels order the Go Power # 34272629 expansion panel.

These panels will just plug into your roof top port that is already installed on your Jayco with the Go Power Solar prep package. The solar prep package includes your solar charge controller and connection to your batteries. Note that this will charge your batteries full and then switch to a maintenance mode. To STORE more power you will need more and/or bigger batteries.

I don't see the need for a portable solar panel for your trailer tongue connection. If you wanted more solar collection I would put the additional panels on the roof as in that location they will not be the high -theft target that panels laying around your campsite would be. Still if you really want one the outdoor “suitcase” model you can get the Go Power # 34282729 Briefcase Solar Panel producing 90 watts.

Finally, for your inverter you will want a “Pure Sine Wave” converter. Some items can run off the less than perfect energy of cheaper inverters, but items like TV's, laptops, and phone chargers can be damaged if you don't use a pure sine wave converter like the 1000 watt Go Power # 34279948 PSW inverter, or the 400 watt Go Power # 34282692 PSW inverter.

You will still need an inline fuse between the battery bank and the inverter – size to be determined by inverter size. You will also need heavy cable between the battery bank and the inverter – length determined by location.

Before you buy anything you should read the 4 articles I have linked below. They discuss how much solar power equipment you need, how to install it, and how much power you may use.

You will need to do an energy audit and come up with how much power you need as this will inform you about how many panels you need, how big your batteries should be, and what size inverter you should get.

I have included links to all products mentioned and video reviews as well.
