Which Heavy-Duty Weight Distribution System With Sway Control For a 2020 Ram 2500
Question:
I have a custom built heavy duty trailer. It is 7x16 enclosed trailer with tandem 7K axles, and has a 10’6” clearance. The trailer is used frequently to move heavy bank safes and other bank equipment. I tow it with my 2020 Ram 2500. I’m looking for a commercial duty weight distribution hitch with sway control and fits the 2 1/2” shank. Any recommendations?

For your application with your 2020 Ram 2500 I recommend a Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ64FR which is a top of the line weight distribution system that includes a 2 1/2 inch shank to fit your trailer hitch receiver. This system has a tongue weight rating of 1200-1600lbs.
If you have a tongue weight of less than 1200lbs I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37120ET which has a tongue weight rating of 800lbs-1200lbs. You will also need a different shank like the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank - 2-1/2" Hitch # EQ90-02-4900 to convert the system to a 2 1/2 inch shank.
I included a video of the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37120ET for you to take a look at.
The key to selecting the correct weight distribution system is knowing your tongue weight, which is the tongue weight of the trailer plus and weight from additional cargo behind the rear axle of your truck. The easiest way to measure your trailer's tongue weight is with a scale like the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044. I included a helpful article that shows you how to figure your total tongue weight.
