I bought a beetle with a demco DM9518071 installed. I’m looking for an inexpensive tow bar that will fit. I only need to travel 35 miles at a time.

The most pocketbook friendly towbar compatible with Demco Classic base plates like the # DM9518071 is the Demco Commander II Non-Binding Tow Bar - Victory Series - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # DM9511012. This is a non-binding tow bar, so it's easy to release your vehicle on non-level ground, and it has a self aligning design that allows you to connect and drive. This also comes with safety cables integrated, so you won't need to purchase those in addition to the tow bar.
I've linked a short review video of this tow bar for you to have a look at. If you need any additional parts for your VW Beetle, please let me know what year it is and I can help you locate parts like, tow bar wiring and supplemental braking.
