How To Install Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller On a 2020 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hi, looking to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite brake controller on a 2020 Subaru Onyx XT with the OEM hitch 4-pin wiring already hooked up. I would rather have the wired brake controller vs the Curt Echo bluetooth connector as well be using our Subaru for some off-road travel with an Escapod trailer ~2000# weight with electric brakes and seems have the security of the wired Redarc would be a better choice than having to having the Curt app open all the time on my phone to deal with changing the brakes for various conditions. Do you have good install instructions available for the Redarc and the 2020 Outback? Mostly worried about finding the brake signal wire under the dash and running the power and brake controller wires into the cockpit. Installing the 4-7 pin adpater ETBC7and running the wires from the back up to the battery seems straightforward but not sure how to get to the wiring under the dash for the brake signal and running wires in and out of the cockpit. Thanks. Best regards,

The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR is an excellent option for a 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon. In regards to installation, I don't have real specific advice as this is not yet something we have done but the install process is pretty much the same on any vehicle. In order to complete this you will need the Trailer Brake Controller Install Kit part # ETBC7.
The wires are generally run on the frame (I personally zip tie to brake lines) up into the engine bay and then to the battery or though the main firewall grommet for access into the vehicle. The stop light signal for the brake controller will need to be pulled from the harness which attaches to the brake pedal and you'll need to test each of the wires to ensure you have the correct one. I will say that nothing is difficult per say with this installation it just takes time.
