Can 7-Way be Wired with Just 5 Circuits for Brake Controller on 2021 Toyota Highlander

Question:

For a 2021 Highlander XLE, I need a five wire plug for brakes on the trailer. It doesnt seem to be available. Could a seven wire plug work by only using five contacts? If so, is a universal kit available that will work on this vehicle? Or is a five wire flat available?

7-Way trailer wiring is commonly wires with 5 circuits like you mentioned when just a brake controller is needed like in your situation. To convert a 4-way to a 7-way to install a brake controller like the Brake EVN # TK63VR the install kit/7-way adapter # ETBC7 would be what you'd need.

5-way flats are available but they are normally used for reverse light circuits so I would not recommend using a 5-way with the brake circuit.
