Swapping One Of Your 30 Pound Propane Tanks For A 100 Pound Tank

Question:

I have two, on board 30# tanks on the 5th wheel with an automatic crossover valve. I will add the 100# tank and plumb it into one inlet, which will disconnect one 30#er but keep the other active. My question is do I need another regulator for the 100# tank? And if so, what PSI?

If your trailer is like most then you will not need another regulator. Take a look at the plumbing currently attached to your 30 pound tanks. You should find a short standard propane hose running from one propane tank to the changeover valve, and another hose (from the other 30 pound tank) running to the other connection on the changeover valve. From there the gas will go through an attached regulator and out the bottom to service your trailer. Some trailers have the regulator as a separate part just after the crossover valve. Either way, you will not need an additional propane regulator.

What you might need is a longer hose to reach the 100 pound tank. That one foot hose to one of those 30 pounders will not likely reach where you have your 100 pounder. I recommend the JR Products # 37207-30795 for a 5' hose, or the Camco # CAM59035 for a 12' hose.

If you don't have any, you will additionally need yellow thread sealant tape #37207-30025. The white tape you use for other threads is not recommended for gas.

When you are finished with your new connections, spray a little soapy water on the joints to see if it bubbles / leaks.
