What Powers Derale Electric Radiator Fan and Shroud

Question:

The listing says: Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. If the engine does not provide the energy to power the fans, what does? Isnt it the alternator? So, what turns the alternator?

Expert Reply:

The alternator and 12 volt power system of the vehicle is what provides the power for the Derale Fan and Shroud Assembly part # D16934. That said, these do not put any additional strain or load on the alternator as it's already turning and providing power for the battery. This is how it frees up power over a manual fan.
