Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch Compatibility with 2019 Ford F-150 5-1/2 Foot Bed
Question:
Can I install a Demco Autoslide in my 2019 Ford F150 5-1/2 foot bed instead of using a sidewinder. I am looking at a 2021 Cougar Half-Ton Fifth Wheel, I just want to have enough clearance without breaking the bank. What woould you recommend?

For a 5-1/2 foot bed, there is one Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th wheel that is compatible with that short a bed because of the amount of travel needed for clearance. It is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Above Bed - 13,000 lbs # DM8550040 because it travels 22-1/2 inches to allow the turning clearance needed. This will be more than enough capacity for your 2021 Keystone Cougar 5th Wheel 1/2 Ton Series. Keep in mind though that even with this setup you'll likely still be cutting it close. It looks like your Cougar's front is tapered which helps with clearance.
The only other option is to use a standard, non-sliding hitch and a Sidewinder pin box to offset the pivot point. Either option does have a cost involved because of the short bed turning clearance limiting your options, so it comes down to preference.
