Can a High/Low Adapter be Used with a Hitch Cargo Carrier?

Question:

Im purchasing the etrailer hitch cargo carrier. Ive heard horror stories about the exhaust melting items in the cargo carrier. I was thinking about using this blue ox high/low adapter to help my carrier clear the exhaust. I read that the tongue weight on the blue ox is 500lbs. The etrialer max weight is also 500lbs. Do you have any concerns using this blue ox adapter for my purpose as described above?

Depending on your 2017 Ford F-150's exhaust design there will likely be no issues as most exhaust out of the side of the vehicle. If you have dual exhaust out of the back of the truck I understand your concern.

The 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches part # e98874 does have a slight rise in the shank but using an adapter can give you extra space. The thing with the Blue Ox Towbar Drop or Rise Receiver part # BX88130 is that they only rate it for flat towing. They do not want it to be used to haul any carriers or trailers.

The Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars part # RM-048-6 can be used for carrying a cargo carrier but when used in this way your hitches capacity in reduced by 50%. This is the same thing we see on all of the other adapters. It also has a 400 lb. capacity so you will be limited to 400 lbs. or half that of your truck's hitch whichever is lower.
