Hitch Handle Operation on Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30033
Question:
I cannot get the handle to lock open and stay open is there any way to fix this. The hitch is the custom accessories for the 2012 f 250.

It is not necessary to lock the hitch handle in the open position to couple your trailer to this hitch. Please refer to the attached installation instructions. The approved method for coupling your trailer to the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30033 is detailed in these instructions. Please note that other fifth wheel hitches may operate differently.
Rotate the handle latch (please see Fig. 10 of the attached instructions) toward the trailer so it is free of the groove in the handle. Please note that the hitch jaws will not open and proper hitching cannot occur if the latch is in the handle groove.
With the handle in the closed position (again please see Fig. 10), back truck slowly into trailer. As the trailer king pin enters the hitch it will push the hitch jaws open and extend the handle (See Fig. 11). As the king pin completely enters head, the jaws will spring closed around king pin and the handle will return to the closed position. (See Fig. 12)
This is the only method for coupling this hitch to a trailer that is approved by the manufacturer.
