Yes, the Thule Passage 2 Bike Rack, # TH910XT, will fit on your 2008 Mercury Mariner. This bike rack has 6 straps that will attach to the top, side and bottom edges of your rear hatch. I have attached the installation instructions as well as a demonstration video for you to check out.
Since your Ladies Trek bike has a step through frame, I would strongly recommend picking up the Thule Bike Adapter Bar, # TH982XT. This adapter will attach to the handlebar post and seat post on your bike providing a horizontal cross tube that will allow you to load your bike level on the bike rack. Loading the bike level will provide a more stable mount and it will provide better ground clearance for your bicycle wheels.
