Is There a Maximum Weight Capacity of a Trailer That Can Be Used with the RedArc Tow Pro Elite

Question:

According to the Redarc Tow Pro Elite website, as well as their instruction manual, they say 4.5 tons is the maximum weight this brake controller should be used for. Based on that information, what other proportional brake controller would you suggest that would be better suited to 8 ton loads with electric brakes on both tandem axles?

Expert Reply:

The RedArc Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR, and all brake controllers for that manner, will not be limited by any certain capacity but might be limited by the number of axles that they can provide brake signals to. In this case, the RedArc Tow Pro Elite is limited to a maximum of 3 axles, but not to any maximum weight capacity of your trailer. You will be able to use the Tow Pro Elite on a trailer with a GVWR of 16,000-lbs without any problems and the Tow Pro Elite is one of the best brake controllers on the market.

What you're noticing in their manual and website is in regards to Australian towing regulations and won't apply to the U.S.A. in this case, but I can understand how this might cause some confusion.

I've linked a review video of this controller for you to have a look at.
