Does 2016 Acura MDX Without Factory Tow Package Have Plug and Play Brake Controller

Question:

I recently purchased a 2016 Acura MDX and need to install a brake controller. This vehicle did not come from the factory with a tow package, but the original purchaser had the dealer install one when he bought it, so it has a 7-pin connector. Ive pored over your website but still have a basic question: How do I know if it also has a pre-installed connector under the dashboard that would allow me to plug in a brake controller? And if so, how do I find it? I am interested in the Curt Spectrum controller if I can easily install it myself, but if I have to run wires all the way through the vehicle then a wireless solution like the Tekonsha 90250 RF controller might be a better choice. Thanks!

A 2016 Acura MDX will only have a plug-and-play brake controller option if it came with the factory tow package with the factory 7-way. Adding a 7-way after the fact would not also add a plug-in option for a brake controller. Since you mentioned your '16 MDX did not have the factory tow package but was wired for a 7-way, the simplest option for a brake controller would be a wireless controller, like you said.

The Prodigy RF you mentioned has been discontinued, but there is a much better wireless option for you, the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180.

The Echo is controlled with an app on your smartphone, a device that you're already comfortable using, so there is not going to be any unfamiliar hardware or poorly-written manual to keep poring over simply to use your controller. It will simply plug into the 7-way on the back of your '16 MDX with absolutely no additional wiring necessary.
