Is There a Difference Between 7-Way RV Standard and Traditional
Question:
7 pin on back of 1999 Dodge Ram 2500, tester shows aux power in electric brake light. Is this a wiring issue or a traditional wire on standard tester. Is there an adapter. Just thought I would ask before I required it. It’s manufacture wiring. Is there a 7 blade traditional to standard adapter?

Expert Reply:
The only difference between 7-way traditional and standard wiring is the colors of the wires. The functions and pin outs are the same so an adapter isn't needed. What you have is possibly a short between the two circuits due to exposed wire or maybe they were wired backwards.
You'd want to go over the wiring of the 7-way and check for exposed wire or corrosion and fix as needed.
