Will Thule OutWay Platform Trunk Mount Bike Rack Dent the Bumper on a 2001 Subaru Legacy

The Thule OutWay platform trunk mount bike rack # TH65JV, is best suited for vehicles that have a metal bumper which will be resistant to deformation. Vehicles with fiberglass bumpers will most likely experience some deforming due to the weight of the rack combined with the weight of a bike or bikes loaded on it.

I recommend the much lighter OutWay 2, # TH45JV. With this rack and one bike loaded on it, you are much less likely to experience any bumper deformation. Make sure the bike rack and vehicle are clean to avoid scratching the paint.

If they bike you will be carrying has an alternative frame and/or the top frame tube does not go straight across from the handle bars to seat post, I recommend using an adapter bar, # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry the bike more level and provide better ground clearance.
