No Brake Output with the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller When Brake Pedal is Pressed
Question:
Have installed a Prodigy P2 that is used on two different vehicles, 2001 Isuzu NPR with GMC gas engine, and 2007 Silverado pick up. Everything worked well till yesterday, the proportional braking is not working, when braking hard the display reads 0.0 and you do not feel the trailer braking. The lever below manuel knob can be activated and braking does occurs and the display reads out the proportion of braking. I have double check the b. / b1 / b2 / b3 setting and the power knob wheel setting. This is happening on both vehicles. How do I check / verify where the problem is?

It sounds like the brake controller is not receiving a signal from the stop light switch. I would first recommend testing the red wire going to the brake controller for signal only when the brake pedal is pressed using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. If there is no signal going to the brake controller, then I would recommend checking the connections on that wire to see if something was disconnected. The red wire from the brake controller should be connected to the cold side of the stop light switch, which is the wire that only has signal when the brake pedal is pressed.
I would also recommend checking that you have a solid ground connection and check that the stop light/CHMSL fuse is not blown.
If you are receiving a signal to the brake controller and the trailer only brakes with the manual override, then the brake controller may be bad and will need to be replaced. Unfortunately brake controllers do not have any internally serviceable parts.
If you find your self needing a new controller I would recommend the Tekonsha P3 brake controller, part # 90195. The P3 is one of our most popular brake controller, and is very easy to use.
