Reese Hide-A-Goose Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Ball Will Not Go Down

Question:

Hi. A few months ago I installed a hide-a-goose hitch purchased from trailer in my 2008 Chevy 2500. Everything has been working great could stow the ball and set for hauling however last week I tried to stow the ball but it will not go into the housing. It appears to hit on something but Im unable to see anything blocking the fit. Has anyone had a similar issue?

This has come up before with different gooseneck hitches that have a hiding ball feature. Normally the cause is some kind of debris, whether it be dirt or corrosion, that is not allowing the ball to move freely or the pin to go all the way in or out. The solution is to clean out the ball cavity as best as you can and then lubricate the hitch according to the instructions which I have linked for you.

In the instructions Reese states to make sure to use the magnetic cover to keep the assembly free of dirt and debris. Lubricate the hitch ball monthly or as needed with heavy grease. Lubricate the ball sleeve with heavy grease when the ball is installed and/or removed. Lubricate the locking pin monthly or as needed with spray-on penetrating oil. Check the bolt torque monthly.

If you can remove the ball completely, check the underside of it to make sure there is no debris caked on preventing it from fitting all the way in the ball cavity. Also make sure the groove in the side of the ball is lined up properly and that it is not clogged with any debris.
