We can suggest several options for a 3-bike carrier for your 2007 Passat Wagon that do not require a trailer hitch receiver.

First, I can suggest the Thule # TH78VR rack. This unit uses the patented Thule FitDial system that simplifies secure mounting of your rack to your Passat with six high-strength nylon straps. Cushioned Anti-Sway Cradles secure your bikes and protect both them and your vehicle while in transit. This rack can carry up to 105 pounds. Please note that the rear wiper cannot be used when this rack is installed.

Another option from Thule is the # TH56BV, Thule OutWay 3 Bike Carrier. This unit offers all of the features of the unit above but adds a unique 4-point mounting system that uses only 2 high-strength cables rather than the four-six straps. The 2 cables mount more easily than the six straps.

In case any of your bikes has a non-standard frame style or is unusually large or small, you may need the Thule Bike Adapter Bar for Wome'ns and Alternative Frame Bikes, part # TH982XT. This bar attaches between the handlebar and seat posts and provides a horizontal surface to fit the rack cradle.
