Routing the Temperature Sensor Wire on the CIPA Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror on a 2011 Kia Sorento

Question:

Is this mirror compatible with a 2011 Kia Sorento LX? I cant figure out how to install the temp wire through the firewall? My local dealer will not install this, only the KIA OEM mirror with just a compass and homelink which I do not want. Any ideas? Thank you for your time.

The CIPA Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror with Compass and Temperature Display, # CM36400, is not a vehicle specific item and will fit on any vehicle that accepts a wedge mount mirror. I would recommend looking for a grommet that already exists on the firewall to pass the wire through. If a hole with a grommet already exists, then you will not have to drill through the firewall. You may be able to find a grommet on the driver side of the firewall behind the under hood fuse box.

If you cannot find an existing grommet on the firewall, then you can drill a hole through the firewall, but you will want to insert a grommet to prevent the wire from being cut on the metal and use silicone to prevent water and engine fumes from leaking into the cab. Be sure you choose a location where you can keep the wire away from any moving or heated engine components. When drilling through the firewall, you should choose a location where you can verify that there are no wires or other components that you could accidentally drill through.
