Recommended ThuleOutWay Trunk Mounted Bike Rack for 1990 Volvo 740 Wagon and 1995 Volvo 940 Sedan

Question:

I have a 32inch large frame beach cruiser with a swayback kind of top bar, and regular sized ladies beach cruiser. Will this rack work with these bikes and on the Volvos in the subject line. Thank you.

According to Thule, several of their trunk mounted 2-bike racks will fit both your 1990 Volvo 740 Wagon and your 1995 940 Sedan, but the Thule OutWay Platform-Style Trunk Mount Rack you mention, part # TH65JV is not one of them. The vehicles can not support the almost 50 lb weight of the rack plus the weight of the bicycles.

The OutWay 2-bike hanging model, part # TH45JV would be an excellent choice, as long as the weight of the bikes does not exceed the 66 lb weight capacity of the rack.

A frame adapter bar like # TH982XT would be needed for the ladies beach cruiser. The adapter bar spans the distance from the handlebar gooseneck to the seat post, and provides a level attachment point for the bike, allowing for maximum ground clearance. You might also need an adapter bar for the men's bike, depending on how steep the angle of the top tube is.

I will link you to some product demonstration videos featuring the OutWay rack as well as the adapter bar. The OutWay video features the 3 bike model # TH56BV, but all the features and install procedures would be the same as the 2-bike model.
