Will the Curt Front Mount Hitch # 31049 Install on a 1998 Ford F-150 2WD Extended Cab
Question:
My truck is a 1998 Ford F150 2wd 3 door extended cab w/ 4.6L eng. The 2wd model does not have tow hooks nor the holes in frame to install them. According to this hitches mounting instructions, the tow hook holes are used for the install. I am wondering if the Curt 31049 front hitch will fit if I drill the holes myself?

I spoke with my contact at Curt and he told me you can install the Curt Front Mount Hitch, # 31049, on your 1998 Ford F-150 2WD as long as the frame of your truck matches the width of the bolt holes on the hitch. The frame width should be the same between the 2WD and 4WD models, but I would recommend measuring just to verify. The bolt holes that mount to the underside of the frame rail measure 31-7/8 in. from center to center. If your frame rails approximately 31-7/8 in. apart on center, then you can install this hitch.
You will use the hitch as a template for the bolt hole locations. I would recommend finding additional help when installing this hitch to make the process easier. Simply mark the holes on the bottom and side of the frame rail. The carriage bolts that are included with the hitch are 1/2 in. bolts, so you will want to use a drill bit that is slightly larger. I have attached a link to the installation instructions for you to check out.
