Will Two Thule Hullavator Pro Carriers Fit on a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Question:

Can you tell me if I can put two Hullavators for kayaks on our 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe? What size cross rails would I need to accomplish this if its possible? How far over the edge do cross rails need to extend on this model suv? I know the specs say 4-8, but theres a big difference between 4 and 8, so can you check this out and perhaps do a video showing 2? Thanks,

The Hullavator is a very popular kayak carrier due to its awesome load-assist function. Many have asked if they can load two on their vehicle, but it's a rare few that can do so as it would require at least 57" crossbar length and a strong roof weight capacity to carry the heavy carriers and the kayaks. One would have to consider the roof rack weight plus the almost 80 lbs of the two carriers plus the kayak weight.

For your 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe, you have a roof weight capacity of 220 lbs which is great. The next part to look at then is the roof rack capabilities. I linked our category of roof racks compatible with your Santa Fe.

As you can see, the longest crossbars we have available are 55" # Y01156 with the kit parts # Y28TR, # Y03541 , # Y06151 , # Y06154. I attached a video reviewing the roof rack on a 2019 Hyundai Santa, but it has the 50" bars on there and you can see how those are already protruding out a little bit past the towers.

All in all, it's not possible to equip your vehicle with 57" crossbars required for two Hullavators. The 4"-8" in the specs means you need a minimum of 4" out to not hit your vehicle and maximum of 8" out before throwing off the carrier's balance/leverage on your vehicle.

I can recommend two options. The first is to get one Hullavator and another carrier like the Thule DockGlide Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs part # TH896 with the Yakima Roof Rack # Y01156, # Y00146, # Y03541, # Y06151, # Y06154. I attached a picture below of how a Hullavator + DockGlide look on a customer's roof rack.

The second option you might be interested in is to simply get a kayak trailer. The Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG461G2 comes with two kayak carriers and 800 lbs weight capacity. It's a lot easier than lifting kayaks onto a roof and -once installed- is ready to hook and go. We also have other trailers with other accessories/weight capabilities, and if you are interested in a trailer, but need help choosing, just let me know.
