Roadmaster Even Brake vs. Brake Buddy Select 3 Supplemental Braking Systems

Question:

I am looking at brake systems to tow my 2010 Ram 1500 Pickup. I have a 45 foot Motor Home with air Brakes. Ideally I would like the air brake system that you offer but I do not have the time to install so consequently I am between the brake buddy system and the road master system. What are the major differences between the two?

The Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Supplemental Braking System # RM-9400 and Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524 are really good choices for easy-to-use portable braking systems, and have only one difference that I would consider a major factor.

That difference is the remote of the Brake Buddy vs. the monitor of the Even Brake that you'll have in your motorhome. While both give you alerts and allow you to monitor the system's status, the Brake Buddy's remote has the advantage because it can be wireless and used with batteries while the Even Brake's monitor has to plug in. The Brake Buddy's remote also allows you to change braking sensitivity and power, which the Even Brake's monitor does not.

The other difference that may be a consideration is the warranty, with the Brake Buddy having a 5-year warranty while the Even Brake has a lifetime warranty. The only other differences are the parts needed to install.

The Roadmaster Even Brake # RM-9400 requires the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332 to power the system; the Brake Buddy does not because it comes with its own power cord.

The Brake Buddy Select 3 # HM39524 will require the Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 for your 2010 Ram 1500; the Even Brake does not because it comes as part of the system.

So with those differences in mind, because of the remote being more functional and giving you greater control over the system, I do recommend the Brake Buddy Select 3 # HM39524.
