Will Rear Tailgate of 2019 Jeep Wrangler Open with H01380 Lets Go Aero Cargo Carrier Installed

Question:

In regards to 48x32 Lets Go Aero GearCage FP4 Slide-Out Cargo Carrier for 2inch Hitches, will a 2019 JL Jeep Wrangler 2 door Rubicon rear door be able to clear this without removing the carrier? If not, are there alternatives you recommend and, if so, which is the easiest to assemble?

With the # H01380 enclosed carrier installed, you'll be able to partially open the rear door by a few inches, but the exact amount will depend on the spare tire mounted to the tailgate.

You can determine exactly how far you'll be able to open the door by measuring 26 inches rearward from the hitch pin hole in the hitch receiver tube. Then, have a helper hold up a straight edge like a piece of lumber at that point while you open the tailgate. This will give you a pretty accurate indication of how far you'll be able to open the door.

If you determine that the tailgate won't open far enough to suit your needs, a swinging adapter like the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483 can be installed in between the hitch and the cargo carrier. This will allow the carrier to swing away to the passenger side so you can fully open the tailgate.

Keep in mind, using an adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half. The ID sticker on the hitch should list its capacity. This means that the weight of the carrier itself (about 80 lbs in the case of the # H01380 carrier) plus its cargo can't weigh more than half the hitch tongue weight capacity. Also be aware that the adapter itself has a 350 lb capacity.

I've linked to product demonstration videos for the cargo carrier you'd looked at as well as for the swinging adapter I recommended.
