Can the Kuat Transfer 2 Be Used as a Frame Mounting Rack or Is There Another Alternative

Question:

Can the wheel hooks be used over the frame of the bike? I like the idea of the step through frame for convenience. My girlfriend’s bike doesn’t have a top rail so this setup would work well, however my bike has fenders. I’ll either have to get the hook as close as possible to the fender or hook over the frame. Thanks

I have a solution for you, but the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU84FR cannot be used in this manner and we do not recommend it for use on bikes that have front fenders on them. Instead, I recommend using the Thule DoubleTrack Pro XT Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # TH92BJ, which has most of the same features as the Kuat Transfer 2 but holds the bikes by the frames instead of the wheels. This rack also won't require the use of a bike adapter bar, which would be required on other racks that use hooks on the frame of the bikes and the 5" wide cradles make it also compatible with fat tire bikes. I also like that it fits on both 1-1/4" and 2" hitch receivers.
