I can tell you that you can flat tow your 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara if it has a manual transmission. I could not get information for flat towing models with an automatic transmission. The best place to check for flat towing procedures and restrictions is your owners manual.
If you check your owners manual and determine that you can flat tow your vehicle, then there are 5 basic components of flat towing that you will need. Those are base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, tow light kit and a supplemental braking system.
For base plates, I recommend the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, # 1439-1. These base plates have removable drawbars for a hidden appearance when you are not towing your Jeep. The tow bar that I would recommend with these base plates is the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, # RM-520. This tow bar has a 6,000 lb capacity which should work well for your Jeep. If you want to go with the Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020, then you will also need to pick up the quick disconnects, # RM-201, and you will want to be sure you do not exceed the 5,000 lb weight capacity. Your Jeep could weight approximately 4,400 lbs and could weigh more if you load any cargo in the Jeep or have added any aftermarket accessories such as larger wheels.
For safety cables, use # RM-643. These cables have a coiled design to prevent them from dragging on the road. When looking for a tow light solution, you will want to choose the lights that you feel meet your needs. If you rarely tow your Jeep, you may want to look at a temporary lighting solution like the Standard Magnetic Tow Lights, # RM-2120. If you will be towing frequently, I recommend a bulb and socket kit like # RM-155. This kit has bulbs that install directly into the Jeep tail light assemblies and do not have to be spliced into the vehicle wiring.
The final item that you may need is a supplemental braking system. Most states now require braking systems on towed vehicles. The system that I recommend is the Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400. This is a proportional braking system that is easy to set up and use.
I have attached a few FAQ articles on flat towing for you to check out.
