Differences Between Curt C13149 and C13406 Class III Hitches for 2017 Toyota RAV4
Question:

Expert Reply:
Either Curt Class III hitch would be a fit for your 2017 Toyota RAV4, the difference between the two is their appearance once they're installed.
The # C13149, is a traditional hitch, where the entire crossbar would be visible from the rear of the vehicle. The # C13406 is a concealed design, where the crossbar would be concealed behind the bumper fascia, with only the receiver tube and safety chain loops being visible. In terms of how they'd perform, The concealed model has a lower tongue weight rating at 350 lbs versus the # C13149 which has a 525 lb tongue weight rating. In terms of installation difficulty, the hitches are about equal.
The more concealed option is a bit more expensive, so you'll need to determine if having the more concealed hitch is worth the price premium.
If you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, you'll need a few other items to complete your towing system. For trailer wiring, use # 118578. For a ball mount, use # D-28 and the # PC3 hitch pin if you're going with the # C13149 hitch or # 2753 if you use the # C13406 hitch. The # 2753 includes the hitch pin. For a trailer ball, use # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 63845 for a 2 inch.
