Options For Mounting The Rhino-Rack Batwing Awning To My Factory FJ Cruiser Roof Rack

Question:

I am sure you will suggest the Slimshady, but I want a 270 degree awning, so please dont make that your stock answer. I am looking to install my Batwing on my factory FJ cruiser 2010 and up and am trying to figure out the best mounting provisions. I know the mounting kit #RR31105 fits round bars, but only round crossbars, not mounting to the side bars of the roof rack. How can I best accomplish this install?

We can find a way to get the Batwing Awning # RR33200 on your Toyota FJ Cruiser, but there isn't a kit made specifically for your roof rack. So let's call this a custom install!

If the round bar you have is no wider than 1-5/8" and no taller than 1-7/8" then you could use the Batwing and Foxwing Awning Relocation Kit for Rhino-Rack Heavy-Duty Crossbars # RR31102. You could slide the bracket over the round bar and drill a hole through the round bar to secure it in place. You will need to grab a strong bolt from your local hardware store.

If that's not an option you could try and use the Rhino-Rack Foxwing Awning Mounting Kit for Round and Square Crossbars # RR31105 and rotate the brackets 90 degrees to accommodate for the direction your bars are facing. You will have to drill holes in your exsisting round bars if they have a diameter more than 1-1/8"

Another option you have is to grab the Rhino-Rack Heavy Duty Crossbars # Y01-120-NT and mount them on your round bars and then use the # RR31102 mounts to install on the Heavy Duty Bars.

These are your options. These aren't the best options since you have to drill through your existing roof rack but at least you have options. This is how you can accomplish the install the best.
