Best Trunk Rack and Lock for 2016 Mazda CX-5

Question:

I’d like your recommendation for best trunk rack to carry a road bike and hybrid bike from Boston down to Florida in the winter on my Mazda CX-5 2016. Need something sturdy that will not sway at high speeds, ability to lock when staying overnight in hotel, will not pick up all the road debris and somewhat lightweight and easy to handle. I’m a female, 5’ 2” weighing 115 lbs, so I need a rack that is easily attached and detached. Also, is any type of bike cover needed to protect the bikes during the trip? Thank you.

I recommend the Saris Bones Rack, part # SA805BL. It can carry two bikes and is very easy to install. Another plus is its 10-pound frame, making it much easier for you to handle than most other trunk racks. Yet another benefit of choosing this rack is the Anti-Sway straps; with six straps to the vehicle and two additional straps for the frame, there is very little sway during travel. I've linked a review video for this rack.

For additional protection, I also recommend the Saris Protect-O-Pads, part # SA2060. They will add that extra security when going such a long distance. I've linked a review for this as well.

To keep the rack and the bikes secure during overnight hotel-stays, I recommend the Saris Cable Lock and Loop, part # SAR52FR. With this lock, you can keep both the rack and the bikes secured to your vehicle. I've linked a review for this one, too.

Unfortunately, we do not carry any bike covers as of yet.
