Movement of Slider Actuating Handle of Reese 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch # RP30084 While Towing

Question:

When we start and stop, the handle that actuates the slider bouces back and forth and makes a lot of noise. We also have a demco hitch on the trailer. Everything looks connected correctly and when we got the trailer the people made sure everything was pulling level. We had an 18K hitch before with a slider and did not have this problem. Is this noise normal or should there be an adjustment? We are towing a 2012 Hitchhiker DA 36foot with a 2012 GMC 2500HD Duramax.

I spoke with my representative in the Tech Services department at Reese about the movement of your slider handle.

He assured me that having the handle move about while the vehicle is in movement is very common, and is NOT anything to be concerned about. The mechanism that locks the slider in place while towing is strong enough that any incidental bouncing of the handle would never provide enough leverage to actuate the handle and dislodge the handle and free the sliding mechanism.
