can this electric fan be hooked up a the 1989 pickup that does not have a electric fan already?

Yes you can install the Flex a Lite fan # FLX236 on a 1989 Toyota Pickup but you'll also need a wiring kit/thermostat part # FLX31149 and you'd be set.
