Taskmaster Trailer Tire # TTWTRTM1758013C Mounted on a 5 Lug Wheel Plus Lift of Trailer Tire

Question:

Referencing Recommended Radial Tire To Replace Bias-Ply ST185/80D13 Trailer Tire, I had a quick question. Im also replacing 4 trailer tires/wheels, St185/80D13 C-Load bias-ply. I see from your answer, the ST175/80R13 works. For a 3500# boat, double-axle, and a 500-mile trip to get the boat to its new berth, Im assuming running radials is recommended? Q1. Is there any advantage to running Load Range D over Load Range C? Q2. Is the recommended TTWTRTM1758013C available in a 13inch 5-lug rim + tire package? Q3. How often do you need to replace boat trailer rims? No rust, but 15-years old see pic Expert Reply: The ST175/80R13 radial tire we offer like part # TTWTRTM1758013C would measure 6.889 inches wide while a tire that is ST185/80D13 would be 7.283 inches wide. That is a difference of .393 inches or a little over 1/3 inch. The # TTWTRTM1758013C tire would fit wheels that measure 13 x 4-1/2, 13 x 5, or 13 x 5-1/2 inches, so it would work well for your wheels. This is a Load Range C tire with a maximum load ratin g of 1,360 lbs at 50 psi. For a Load Range D tire I recommend part # AM10210. This has a capacity of 1,610 lbs at 65 psi.

The advantage that a Load Range D tire has over a Load Range C is just weight capacity. If you don't need the additional weight capacity of the D over the C you don't gain much in that regard.

We do have the Taskmaster wheel and tire part # TTWTRTM1758013C mounted on a 5 lug wheel with the part # A13RSMPVD.

The typical age a trailer tire needs to be replaced is between 4 and 6 years. Wheel is harder to say. As long as it's not rusting and doesn't have any damage though you are safe.
