How To Convert 4-Way On 2014 Ford Escape To 7-Way With 4-Way

Question:

I have a 2014 Ford Escape Titanium that has a factory tow package with a 4-pin connector. I was considering a dual connector socket to accommodate both my 7-pin camper camper and my 4-pin utility trailer. It looks like the Hopkins HM40975 would plug into an existing 7-pole connector, while the Hopkins 37185 would plug into an existing 4-pole my case. Rather than keep the rusty old 4-pin socket connection as part of the wiring system, I would rather cut it off, wire in a 7-pole, and then add the 40975 adapter. Which wiring system would be my best option? Did my original 4-pin come with a converter, or do I need a new one as part of the new wiring. Also, one of your videos says that stop and turn signals should be 3A/circuit and taillights 6A/circuit to accommodate newer LED bulbs, should my existing wiring be adequate? Also, I read that the new power wire to the battery should be 8-10 ga with a 30A 12v DC automotive circuit breaker to accommodate a full 12-14A for my trailer refrigerator. Do you also supply that circuit breaker and wire? Thanks!

Expert Reply:

In order to convert the 4-way on a 2014 Ford Escape to a 7-way with 4-way I recommend using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 because it comes with the 10 gauge wire and 30/40 amp circuit breakers needed to charge the trailer battery or power other accessories. It also comes with a mounting bracket. The two 4-ways can be plugged into on anther or you can cut them both off and hardwire them.
