Would Lack of Titan BrakeRite Adapter Cause Damage to Actuator

Question:

I have a new Brakerite Model 1500 EOH unit, the one with the internal ECB built in not the SD model or the RF or severe dury. Truck is 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 worktruck with factory ITBC. I had the older Brakerite Model 1100, essentially the same thing, for 2 years that worked fine, but I didnt get the adaptor because it seemed to work fine. And whats interesting is that inside the unit, theres a rectangular unit with a white and blue wire, which looks like an adaptor of some sort. So I figured since it worked and it looks like it had an adaptor, maybe that was old info about needing an adaptor. But the unit died recently it only acutates now when brakes or ITBC lever is less than halfway on the ITBC gain indicator and Dexter/Brakerite kindly sent me another one under warranty . Truck tests fine, smooth voltage ramp up as I move the ITBC lever. So my questions are: 1. Do you think the unit may have died because I didnt have this adaptor? 2. More importantly, is this adaptor currently specified to be needed on my GMC Sierra 1500? 3. If specified/needed, where do people typically mount it? Does it need to be out of the weather? 4. What is the rectangular thing inside the unit that looks like an adaptor? Thank you!

The adapter T4846000 or lack thereof would not have damaged the actuator. Normally the adapter is installed mostly out of the weather but it's basically waterproof so just use best judgment. Inside the adapter is basically a magnet that simulates the amperage draw of electric brakes so that your brake controller can sense a trailer connection.
