Can I Haul My Bass Boat Without Buying A Class V Hitch?
Question:
I want to tow my bass boat with a truck camper without adding a Class V hitch. Is this okay? Attached is a picture of my hitch plate on my 2006 Chevy2500HD.

You will need to check the tongue weight of your boat trailer to make sure it doesn't exceed the rating on your current hitch. Here at the shop we use our Trailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044. This is convenient to use because you don't have to disconnect the trailer to check the tongue weight if you don't want to. We don't want the tongue weight to be over 1,000 lbs and we want to have about 10-15% of your overall boat and trailer weight on the ball. Get an idea of what your boat and trailer weigh, then use the scale to get 10-15% of that weight on the ball. If you're under 1,000lbs and in the sweetspot, you're all set!
I've included the video of me using the scale if you wanted to see how it works!
