Using Vehicle To Vehicle Taillight Converter # 118158 to Provide 3rd Brake Lamp on Trailer
Question:
What does the taillight converter do #11858? I would like to add an additional break light to my trailer without turn signals.

Expert Reply:
The Tow Ready # 11858 is essentially a reverse tail light converter. A trailer used what we call a combined tail light system, where the signals for the brake lamps as well as the turn signals are carried on the same circuit. The # 118158 reverses this process, by separating the brake lamp signal from the turn signal circuit.
To install a 3rd brake lamp on a trailer, the # 118158 is exactly what you would need. You would tap the green and yellow wires on the INPUT side of the converter into the right and left turn signal/brake lamp circuits on your trailer. The white wire would ground to the trailer frame. On the OUTPUT side, the red wire would power the third brake lamp and the yellow and green wires would be cut short and capped off, as shown in the diagram I made for you.
