Best Roof Rack For Hauling Two Angler Kayaks On A 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have a 2018 Jeep GC Altitude with the flat black rails. So, I need to use a naked roof type mount.I see on most sites, the max carry weight for these rails is between 150 and 165 pounds but this site states 125 to 130 pounds depending on the rack. I have two 68 lb angler kayaks and I need a rack that I can use to carry those taking into consideration the weight of j mounts as well. Any reason why there is a significant difference in max weight for my vehicle?

Sometimes the manufacturers rate their roof racks for less than what your vehicle can handle. For some racks like the Yakima JetStream Roof Rack System using the Jetstream Crossbars # Y00426, the BaseLine Towers # Y28TR and the BaseClip Fit Kit # Y06121 you will have a weight capacity of 165lbs which should be right at what your roof can handle.
So, get the Yakima JetStream Roof Rack System and for your 68lb Kayaks, I suggest getting the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding - Universal Mount Item # e98878 because it is lightweight due to its aluminum construction and it will be able to adjust to get your kayaks sitting on your car positioned how you like them. Our carrier comes with tie downs too which is nice!
I've included a video of me using our J-Style Carriers, check it out!
