I checked with the manufacturer for you and the Stromberg Carlson 100 Series 5th Wheel Tailgate with Open Design for Dodge Trucks # VGD-10-100 uses 16 gauge steel tubing. That means it has a thickness of about 1/16th of an inch.
The tailgate will fit your 2012 Ram 3500 and I have added a link to the instructions as well as a video showing an install on a '12 Ram 3500 of the Stromberg Carlson 100 Series 5th Wheel Tailgate with Open Design for Dodge Trucks # VGD-10-100.
