Where to Mount a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2013 Ford Escape

Question:

I just purchased a 2013 Ford Escape with the trailer tow option. Where can I mount the brake controller. With the knee air bags there just doesnt seem to be a place for a Prodigy controller. I purchased my trailer brakes and controller from you and received very good service. Thank you for any info you can give me.

Since you have the P2, # 90885, it has a wide mounting range (a full 360 degrees in the direction of travel) as long as it is not tilted or turned to the side at all. The only other stipulation is that it needs to be within the reach of the driver. Based on this information you should be able to find the best location.

After looking at some pictures of the 2013 interior, the area on the center console, above the climate controls, there appears to be a ridge that sticks out so that is a possible location.

Do you know if Bradley ever found a place to mount the P2 controller. I have the same problem mounting a P3? Im thinking the dash is the only place to mount it passing the wires under the drivers side column trim down to the plastic plug just above the door cable, than through the fender to the engine compartment. Do you have any documentation on the proper wire of the four on the break switch to connect the P3 or would I be better off running a wire to the back and spliceing into the trailer brake lights. I bought one of your 118566 harnesses and have to run the cable I bought from you so doing another wire isnt much additional work. Also can you tell me where I can go through the firewall with the wiring? These 2013 Escapes are packed to the wall under the hood and its hard to even see the firewall much less pass wires through it.Thanks Dick

If you run to the back to the trailer connector for brake signal, you will also pick up a turn signal. We cannot say for certain which wire it is as colors can change. The best thing to do is use a circuit tester on each wire and find the one that goes hot only when pedal is depressed. There is no easy answer for the mounting and firewall grommet questions. Some models have unoccupied grommets because they have less electronics, some may not. My best advice is to find a way to lay on the floorboard and search around for firewall access. Sometimes we even take the front driver seat out in our install shop to accomplish this. Mounting to the lower dash on either side of the steering column is really the best place to keep a brake controller as it is easy to access and view.
