Tow Bar Wiring for 2006 Chevy Suburban Z71

Question:

Why won’t the Hopkins dingy tow wiring kit HM56101 work on a 2006 suburban z71? There website states all models except the z71

We do have harnesses that will work for your 2006 Chevy Suburban but my guess is the Z71 doesn't have the needed connector to install the Hopkins harness you were referring to. I can see why you would want to use that one as it does not involve splicing, but each of the harnesses that fit a 2006 Suburban Z71 are going to require splicing to install, and for that I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267.

Other parts you'll need to flat tow your 2006 Suburban are:

- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # 199-6 (Suburban 1500) or # 3115-3 (Suburban 2500)
- Tow Bar: Roadmaster BlackHawk 2 All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-422
- Safety Chains: Roadmaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643
- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
OR
- For a motorhome with air brakes: Demco SBS Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motorhomes with Air Brakes # SM99243

You may also need a high-low adapter such as # RM-048-6 in order to keep your tow bar level, and I've added a link to a help article which shows you how to determine if you need an adapter, as well as a link to our selection of adapters. Additionally, I have added links to instruction manuals, video reviews and installations for you to take a look at.
