How to Determine Trailer Light Wiring Functions that Use Non-Standard Colors

Question:

I have an 1981 Holidaire and im replacing the tail lights On the left hand side I have 3 wires coming out of the trailer - two green and one red I believe. The replacement light has the white, black and green wires. I have tried a combination of options but not too sure which wires need to be connected to each other the light either doesnt work or isnt very bright at all. Any insight would be helpful Thank you

What you'll want to do is use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires on your trailer that run to your trailer lights to determine there function. So have a buddy apply the taillight circuits of the vehicle (connected to the trailer) and then probe the wires with the tester till you find out which carries the stoplight/turn light circuit, the taillight, and the ground. Once you know that you'll be able to wire in the new taillights.

For the part # 30-92-001 that you referenced the white wire is ground, the green is running light, and the black is stop/turn.
