Replacement Brake Assemblies and Hub Drums for 3500 lb Axle
Question:
I have a 2010 Rockwood Untralight camper and need to replace the brakes. I’m thinking I’ll be better off to spend the extra $ and replace the entire brake assembly. I can’t find the axle rating anywhere. The inner bearing part number is 44649, outer bearing is 68149 and the grease seal is 442251. Two questions: 1 what axle rating do I have and 2 which brake assembly would you recommend? Thanks much!

Given the bearing numbers you provided, you have a typical 3500 lb axle which uses a 10 inch brake assembly. I'd recommend going with a self adjusting brake assembly like # AKEBRK-35-SA which includes a left and right assembly. The mounting hardware is available separately as # BRKH10B.
I'd also suggest taking a look at the armature surface of the brake drum that your brake magnet rides against. If it's grooved at all, you'll want to replace it as the magnet won't get the best grab on a grooved surface. Part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K would make a good replacement. They're sold individually, and include the bearings, races, grease seal, lug nuts and grease caps. The included 58846 grease seal is a direct interchange for the 442251 seal you mentioned.
The # 42655UC1 hub you'd looked at is an idler hub for a 6K axle, and isn't what you'd need.
